Although these plates appear to be of porous texture, they do an EXCELLENT JOB of Separating foods & their flavors, remaining firm and easy to handle without a plastic sub-plate used below, appear to absorb minimal food juices and liquids and are quite resistant to penetration by slicing with normal table knife and fork activities ... even when cutting abnormally tough or over-cooked meats and vegetables. If you like your foods kept cleanly separate and easy to handle, these do the job well without compromise! I cannot give this product or any of its competitive products 5 Stars for "Durability" because they have been specifically designed to be quickly biodegradable and recyclable. Amazon needs a better category title for this rating of paper plate type products.
