Product Description

Updated 2021 Edition!Think of this guidebook as a collection of recommendations from your best friend who lives in the city that you are visiting. For the last five years, I've called Mexico City home and as a travel writer and lover of this incredible place, I have made it my job to get under the surface, to find the best places to eat and drink. I have learned about the history of the city, the people, the food, and I share all of those stories with you in this guidebook. If you are looking for a fancy guide with color photos and detailed artist maps, this isn't that guide. This is a self-published guide written by one woman who loves sharing all of the best parts of Mexico City with anyone who wants to learn more. In order to keep this book affordable, there are no photos other than the one on the cover. Inside the book, you will find an easy to follow link where you can download a map to your phone and use that when you are exploring the city and want to find one of the places that is listed inside the book. This is the fourth edition of this book. Inside you will find detailed information about six of the city's most popular central neighborhoods. You'll be introduced to all of the best street foods to look out for and where to find them. You'll learn about the history of the Centro Historico and where to go to see how much it's sinking below the surface. If you want a fun and extensive guide to Mexico City, then I think you'll love this one.

We found this guide very helpful during a visit in summer of 2023. This is a single author work with clearly stated opinions. This means one may not agree with everything (such as safety of the use of subway), but you get well reasoned and explained tips. There is equal weighting to sites to see, museums, places to eat and bars. There are a few maps which were added in this edition due to reader feedback, though honestly I found the use of google or other phone maps to be more practical. This is self published, so the formatting is very plain and our edition did not have page numbers (though the table of contents did). I found these minor and did not detract from what was the clear strength of the book which is the knowledgeable content. I found her recommendations different in character from Lonely Planet, which we used in parallel. The use of this book complemented the use of another another guide book. There are short chapters on side trips which were just the right size.
